L'immagine “http://www.vvvv.org/styles/Ddefault/VVVV_logo_schwarz.png” non può essere visualizzata poiché contiene degli errori. vvvv is a toolkit for developing multimedia applications with a visual programming environment. With its capabilities of dealing with videofiles, 3d data, etc. it was used to implement the application running on the server, which is responsible for displaying videos and loading further vvvv-realtime-applications.

The development of vvvv was initiated 1998 by Sebastian Oschatz and Max Wolf at MESO to built a high performance multimedia tool to set up artistic and commercial projects. They were joined shortly after by Sebastian Gregor who invented many of the core algorithms. In 2001 Joreg joined the team at MESO to set up the graphical user interface as his diploma thesis. In the first years vvvv was used exclusively as an inhouse tool. The first public release was in 2003.
In 2006 the further development of vvvv was handed over to the vvvv group consisting out of Joreg, Sebastian Oschatz, Sebastian Gregor and Max Wolf, which will coordinate further developments of the software. Max Wolf and Sebastian Oschatz are continuing to work on commercial projects with their company MESO digital interior.

Because vvvv is basically a very modular multipurpose construction toolkit, it can be used to create many kinds of custom-built applications. So it's difficult for us to list everything that the toolkit can be used for.

We successfully used vvvv in the following areas:
  • Media Environments: VVVV can be used to develop large-scale installations using inputs from various external devices and creating audio and video as well as controlling DMX systems or other devices.
  • Rapid Prototyping of Interactive Systems: The structure of vvvv's graphical programming language is ideal for making quick prototypes of more complex systems. The clean and efficient user interface includes lots of handy shortcuts and usability features.
  • Projections. The powerful directx capabilities allow for realtime image warping on arbitrary surfaces, color correction and softedge blending.
  • Interactive TV-Broadcast Design and Animation: vvvv's real-time 2D & 3D graphical output can be used to create high quality full motion graphics which is suitable for interactive broadcast applications.
  • Multi-Projection setups: With the clustering & networking capabilities, vvvv can run synchronized on multiple computers to create huge panorama projections with multiple render clients.
  • Content Syndication: With the internet and text processing nodes it is possible to use vvvv to gather and prepare text from various internet sources and display them in various forms.
  • Teaching: VVVV contains many powerful and easy to use modules
  • Custom VJ Instruments: Create your own customized VJ applications to generate graphics that react to musical input. Use MIDI faders, DMX input, touch panels, audio and video inputto further control your application.

In Germany we say Vau for V which would sound in English something like Fow (F as in Film and ow as in Power). So by downloading vvvv you´re obliged to say something like "Fow Fow Fow Fow" each time you want to tell somebody about the software. There are people saying Vier Vau (Fear Fow) and saying Das Vau (the Fow).

If you write vvvv use lower case within the text and uppercase at the beginning of a sentence. Never write Vvvv, although most popular spell checkers will make you so. Never write v4 as google will not make someone find that.
